Reiki for Anxiety

Reiki is a meditative practice that is known to promote relaxation and reduces stress and anxiety. It is a gentle energy healing therapy that promotes positive mental state of mind, bringing peace and clarity. Reiki healing can help with a variety of physical and emotional issues, including but not limited to insomnia, stress, anxiety, depression and mood swings.

Some common symptoms of anxiety may include:

  • Restlessness

  • Constantly tired

  • Trouble sleeping

  • Tension in body


Studies have shown that Reiki offers potential benefits for people suffering from anxiety. Some of these benefits include:

  1. Better sleep

  2. Relaxation

  3. Improved mood

  4. Lower stress levels


These benefits work well to combat the symptoms experienced with anxiety.


Most discomforts we feel is due to energy blockages in our body. These blockages can affect and manifest in our physical, mental and emotional states. By using Reiki energy healing, we aim to bring the body back into balance by channelling the universal energy into the body to break up, balance and realign the energies of our body.


As anxiety can be triggered by a multitude of sources, such as past traumas, medical conditions, stress from work and/or relationships etc. Often, we may not even recognize our anxiety triggers. Through Reiki, the practitioner will scan through the chakras for blockages or unbalanced energy and work to bring them back to harmony. Identifying the unbalanced chakras can very often give us an insight on the potential culprits to our anxiety triggers, allowing us to find solutions to work on managing the anxiety sources as well.

As Reiki is a non-invasive energy healing modality, known to have no negative side effects, making it suitable as a complementary therapy in conjunction with almost any other treatments and therapies.


We have heard clients reporting no significant difference felt during and after a Reiki session. This is common as everyone is different and may respond or react differently to the session. This does not imply that Reiki is not working for them. In other cases, the clients may feel warmth, tingling sensations or even see visions etc during a session. However, as Reiki is a form of energy healing and we are energy forms naturally, with every cell in our body as a conductor, Reiki is effective in creating that energetic balance in our body, resetting it when necessary. Despite not feeling any significant sensations during a session, many have noticed getting better rest, or having earlier bed times, as well as better hormonal regulations (PMS) as a side effect from after a Reiki session. This is the body's way of re-balancing itself or getting the much needed rest that is has been missing due to high stress levels in the body.


Often clients feedback that meditating can be difficult as their minds remain active and unable to truly be calm or find that inner peace. Reiki sessions, however, is an easier way for them to get into this meditative mindset, allowing the thoughts to slow down and relax. Reiki gives that much needed balance, putting anxiety in perspective, making it easier to let go.


Receiving sessions regularly provides deeper balancing and longer lasting benefits (most clients book a session at least once every 4-6 weeks). This frequency varies, as each session is different and a recommended follow up session will be advised at the end of each session by the practitioner.


However, if you have been experiencing anxiety for a long time, it is likely recommended to book 2-3 sessions closer together initially and slowly tapering off. This is generally because, if anxiety is something you have experienced for a while, it will take longer for your body to fully release all that stored energy as opposed to if you have had anxiety for only a couple of weeks.
